All of the parameters that you can change in the Advanced Settings window together make up what is known as a "settings group." By allowing you to easily change and save settings groups, you can quickly select all your parameters at once. This saves you time, as well as allowing you to make sure that your movies are consistent. Movie Cleaner comes with some pre-installed settings groups such as "Cinepak for 2x CD-ROM", "Indeo for 2x CD-ROM", and more. You can save your own settings groups and modify them, as well as delete groups you no longer need.
It is not necessary to have a movie open before working with setting groups in the Advanced Settings window. If you do have a movie open, the current settings will be automatically applied and saved to that movie. If you do not have a movie open, the settings you select will not be automatically applied to any movie, but can be saved and retrieved for later use. If you open a movie that has settings associated with it, the settings in the Advanced Settings window will change to the movie's settings.
Creating New Settings
To create a new group of settings, select New Settings from the Settings menu. You will be prompted to name your new settings. The new settings group will have the same parameters as the previously active settings group. For example, if you have the "Cinepak for 2x" setting open and decide to make a new setting called "Indeo for 4x", the new group will start with the "Cinepak for 2x" parameters. You may then modify these as you wish and use "Save As..." when you are done. Starting with the current settings is a way to save you from having to reset every parameter from scratch each time you make a new settings group.
Modifying Settings
To modify a setting group, simply select it from the Settings menu, and change the desired parameters. As soon as you change an existing setting, it will be indicated by adding a "mod" to the end of the name. This lets you know that you have changed a setting from your original. All changes are continually saved, as well as the original settings. You can change a modified setting back to its last saved parameters with the Revert command (see below).
Saving Settings
When you are done modifying the setting, you can leave it as a ".mod" setting, or you can select "Save" from the Settings menu to replace the unmodified version with the new version. If you want to keep the original version, as well as the new modified version, use the "Save As..." option from the Settings menu. This will prompt you for a new name for the modified group. After the new group has been saved, the original group remains modified until you revert it (see below).
Reverting Settings
You can change any modified setting back to its last saved format with the "Revert" command in the Settings menu. You can only revert settings that have a ".mod" in their name. You can not undo a Revert command.
To Delete Settings
If you want to delete a settings group you have previously saved, select "Delete Settings" from the Settings menu. A list of saved setting groups will appear, from which you can select the particular group(s) you want to delete. You can shift-click to select multiple settings.
